More Photo Harvest Updates!

We have our seventh Harvest coming up this Friday! The people of the McGregor House are opening their doors and contributing their stories and photos to our project! We are incredibly excited about the overwhelming support we have received from those wanting to be involved in this project!

We have also had the privilege of collaborating with members of the Spring Grove Village Community Council to plan a potluck and harvest in their community for next Tuesday, February 21st from 6:30-8:30pm! It will be at Schomacker Commons, 638 E. Epworth Ave.
Cincinnati, OH 45232

And remember, if you are not able to make it to one of our events, your stories and photos are always welcome! (Send photos labeled with each neighborhood pictured to: photos@cincystorymural.org)

We're not done yet!

With our sixth photo harvest coming up, it’s amazing to think how far we’ve already come, and only a tad daunting to think how far we still need to go!  Krista Brinkmeyer (aka KB), local artist and Starfire U member, and her passion for photography led to this project almost 4 months ago. At that time, we had no clue how much this idea would develop and the level of support we would get.

The first official meeting for the project happened at ZZ’s Pizza in Walnut Hills, just minutes from DIY Printing. KB had been working together with Aaron Kent, owner of DIY, on learning the basics of screen printing. It was there, over a huge pie filled with tomatoes and cheese, that KB, Aaron, and Cedric Cox, also a local artist, hashed out the original plans for what was to become Cincy Story Mural.

Oakley and Madisonville residents gather for the first photo harvest

KB brought their plans to the Public Allies in the form of a Prezi presentation, and also sat down with Randy Weeks of Cincy.com in a meeting of the minds. In a matter of weeks, the project grew from 3 people to a 16 all-volunteer crew.

Because of this collaboration, KB is glad she can move away from the details and nitty gritty and get back to what she really loves: taking pictures and doing interviews with local people.
“This is my last year at Starfire U.” Krista explains. “We need more pictures, I need to get this done.”

People of Price Hill share their stories with the team

At this point in our progress, we have found out that the locals are the true backbone of this project. The residents of Cincinnati who submit their stories, photos, and show us support by coming out for the photo harvests are the number one contributors to the beauty of the mural.

You can become a supporter too by simply sharing your pictures of around your neighborhood and Cincinnati, and telling your story at the next photo harvest nearest you!

Our next harvest is tomorrow at the College Hill Coffee Co. from 4-6pm. Hope to see you there!

Are You Ready To Tell Your Story?

Bet you all have been wondering what we've been up to lately...we've been meeting with amazing community partners like Aaron Kent, and partners with great ideas from Yelp, talking to folks all around the city interested in hosting a mural, and best of all (this is where you come in, folks!)...we've been planning PHOTO HARVESTS! It's finally time to start getting together, sharing stories, photos, memories, and making new ones!

What's a Photo Harvest? A gathering space filled with photos and shared experiences. Let's get together to talk about memories and Cincinnati life. Come with your smiles, experiences, family, friends, co-workers, and photos! Dust off those old shoeboxes and get ready to reminisce with us.

These are open house events, so feel free to come and go as you please. Refreshments will be available at certain harvest locations.

What format should the Photos be in? You can bring an actual photo to be scanned into our system, your digital camera with photos we can upload, or your photos on a flash drive!

What Stories are we talking about? We would LOVE for you to sit down with us and tell us your story. Recording devices will be available for audio or visual tales. If you prefer to just type/write your story down, we would love that, too! Your stories give the photos context, and will provide incredible depth to Cincy Story Mural. Please make yourself heard--we can't wait to listen!

The CINCY STORY MURAL project is underway…

...and we want you to be a part of it!

We are Cincy Story Mural—a new project dedicated to celebrating the greater Cincinnati area’s people and cultures through collaborative art and storytelling.

Cincinnati is often referred to as “a big city with a small-town feel” for the many overlapping connections that exist within our community. We hope this project will work to strengthen existing relationships and facilitate new ones in a sustainable, lasting way.

During the project, we will collect personal photographs, stories, and videos that reveal the narratives of the people, places, experiences of each of Cincinnati’s communities.  And, in the Spring of 2012, a map of our city will be transformed into a mural and installed in locations throughout Cincinnati for everyone to enjoy.  Because our dynamic communities are always growing, we’ll also be creating an interactive online version with photos, videos, and stories added by you, your families, and your friends.

With 52 unique neighborhoods and more than a dozen independent municipalities, we have a lot of work to do before this dream becomes a reality.  So, join us -- we need your ideas, your memories, your stories, and your passion.  Help us tell the story of our city through the eyes of the people who live here and call Cincinnati home.
